According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for U.S. teens. It’s a startling statistic — especially when most of these accidents could’ve been prevented.
For drivers between the ages of 16 and 19, the risk of getting into a car accident is high. Higher than any other age group. In fact, compared to older drivers, they’re nearly three times more likely to be involved in a fatal crash.
The pledge
To keep your teen driver as safe as possible, consider a contract. Set aside a time to set some ground rules. Review them with your child, then sign off on them together.
